6x9 cards are jumbo versions of regular Magic cards. Most of the 6x9 cards were distributed to Arena League winners from 1997-1999. Others were distributed in magazines including Duelist, Inquest, and Scrye; or in comic books. 6x9 cards were initially popular with such classics as Black Lotus and Chaos Orb being printed. (For a good casual combo, use Ring of Ma'rûf to grab a 6x9 Chaos Orb, and take out your opponent's entire playing field.) However, as more and more were printed, Arena League winners became disenchanted with them, and expressed a desire to win playable cards. The last 6x9s were produced early in 1999, and were supplanted in Arena League by special foil cards.

Note that even though the backs of the 6x9 cards say "Not for play use" that doesn't stop people from building decks with them! With 94 different cards including all five basic lands, some fun decks can be put together. There used to be a league that played with 6x9s (including custom rules and a restricted list), but their web site seems to have disappeared.
